Things AI Could Never Do – part four

AI Could Never Bring a Boat Home to Harbor

January 4, 2026

I am sure that AI could steer a boat across the sea, perhaps flawlessly, but could it feel the dampness of fog settling on the face as it looks out on the ocean’s broad expanse?  Could its heart swell at the privilege of viewing that endless panorama of sunlight and clouds?   Could it feel the thrill of spotting land, knowing that loved ones patiently wait on the shore?

In the distance, on the hill that overlooks the town, a church steeple rises gracefully above the fog. The hollow sound of the ancient bell tolls the daily hour, reminding us that we have been gifted another day.
